Hacks/Hackers BA Media Party 2016

Estamos en la era de las filtraciones electrónicas masivas: los documentos de la NSA, Wikileaks y los Papeles de Panamá son solo el principio. ¿Qué hacer si mañana recibes una? Veremos paso a paso cuál es el proceso a seguir desde la recepción de documentos hasta su análisis, usando la experiencia aprendida por el Consorcio Internacional de Periodistas de Investigación tras cuatro años trabajando con filtraciones.

Este taller cubrirá algunos aspectos técnicos, pero está orientado a periodistas o programadores que trabajen en medios, independientemente de sus conocimientos tecnológicos. Como mínimo aprenderás cuál es el proceso para poder pedírselo a quien sepa hacerlo en tu redacción.

Resultado: El objetivo del taller es que los participantes aprendan cómo abrir documentos en entornos seguros, cómo analizar su contenido, planificar su procesamiento y marcar una estrategia para su análisis. Usaremos la base de datos de Offshore Leaks https://offshoreleaks.icij.org/ para este último paso y la idea es que lo aprendido ayude a los asistentes a encontrar historias desconocidas dentro de los Papeles de Panamá durante el hackatón

Requerimientos: Proyector para mi computadora (con clavija de HDMI) y suficientes enchufes para los portátiles de los participantes.

We're in the era of electronic leaks: the NSA files, Wikileaks and the Panama Papers are just the beginning. What should you do if you receive one? This session will walk you through the process from obtaining the files to their analysis, using the experience obtained by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists after four years working with leaks.

This workshop will cover some technical skills, but it's aimed at journalists or developers that work in media organizations, regardless of their technical knowledge. At a minimum, you'll learn what the process is so you can ask whoever is knowledgeable in your newsroom.

Time: Two hours

Level: Low

Outcome: The goal of this workshop is that participants learn how to open documents in a safe space, how to analyze their content, plan their processing and set-up a strategy for their analysis. We'll use the Offshore Leaks Database https://offshoreleaks.icij.org/ for this last step and the idea is that what is learnt could help attendees to find unknown stories inside the Panama Papers during the hackathon.
